Albert Bierstadt gosnold at cuttyhunk
Bartholomew Gosnold the English explorer and colonizer, sailed for the new world in 1602 and eventually landed on the coast of maine. He then worked his way south o an island near cape cod which he called Elizabeth, where he landed and built a fort. From his story, Bierstadt fashioned a remarkable oil painting, considering that it was completed a little lover a year after he returned from Europe. In it, he records his direct response to a shoreside scene , an utterly peaceful moment on a summer day a high noon.

Gonsnold at cuttyhunk has a few of the Dusseldorf mannerism of Bierstadt's earlier works.

This painting been painted with on on canvas on 1858, with original size of 71x124cm. Presently located in Old dartmouth Historical society whaling museum.
